I want to discuss side hustles for women. Many women are looking for practical ways to earn extra income but need to do this without burning out. They don’t want to become millionaires overnight. What they really want is breathing space.

Addtional income to reduce current financial stress is usually a top reason along with gaining more confidence in their finances. More money also creats more options. So that’s where side hustles can be incredibly powerful. Done well, a side hustle isn’t about working harder or longer. It’s about being intentional with your time, skills, and energy.

What a ‘Side Hustle’ isn’t

Let’s clear something up first as there is a lot of use of the term ‘side hustle’ so I want to share what it isn’t :
  • A “get rich quick” scheme.
  • Hustling every spare hour
  • Starting a full-scale business, you don’t have the capacity for
  • Copying what influencers say you should do
If it feels exhausting and overwhelming just thinking about it, you’re probably looking at the wrong kind of side hustle.

What is a good ‘Side Hustle’

I think this one which you can tick some or all of the points below:

  • Fits around work, family, or caring responsibilities.
  • Use skills you already have (often ones you undervalue)
  • Start small and grow at your own pace.
  • Increase income and confidence.
  • Create options with the addtional income, whether that’s saving more, reducing hours, or planning ahead for the future for something specific.
For many women, it’s less about ambition and more about agency.

The juggle is real!

Women are often juggling multiple roles, you might be an employee, business owner, carer, partner, parent, volunteer. Traditional financial advice doesn’t always reflect that reality.
Side hustles allow for:
  • Flexibility over time and energy
  • Control over how much you earn
  • Income that adapts as life changes
  • Confidence-building around money decisions
And crucially, they can start without permission or at the perfect time for you.

The biggest block? Not knowing where to start

One of the most common things I hear is:

“I’ve thought about a side hustle… I just don’t know what would actually work for me.”

That’s completely normal. There’s a big difference between online hype and real-life, sustainable income ideas. What works depends on your skills, personality, capacity, and goals  not trends. That’s why hearing from real women who are actually doing it is so valuable.
